commit 099cf1fbb8afc3771f408109f62bdec66f85160e upstream.
The deadlock can occur due to a recursive lock acquisition of
`cros_typec_altmode_data::mutex`.
The call chain is as follows:
1. cros_typec_altmode_work() acquires the mutex
2. typec_altmode_vdm() -> dp_altmode_vdm() ->
3. typec_altmode_exit() -> cros_typec_altmode_exit()
4. cros_typec_altmode_exit() attempts to acquire the mutex again
To prevent this, defer the `typec_altmode_exit()` call by scheduling
it rather than calling it directly from within the mutex-protected
context.

commit af4db5a35a4ef7a68046883bfd12468007db38f1 upstream.
A poorly implemented DisplayPort Alt Mode port partner can indicate
that its pin assignment capabilities are greater than the maximum
value, DP_PIN_ASSIGN_F. In this case, calls to pin_assignment_show
will cause a BRK exception due to an out of bounds array access.
Prevent for loop in pin_assignment_show from accessing
invalid values in pin_assignments by adding DP_PIN_ASSIGN_MAX
value in typec_dp.h and using i < DP_PIN_ASSIGN_MAX as a loop
condition.

Since the typec connectors can have many muxes or switches for different
lanes (sbu, usb2, usb3) going into different modal states (usb2, usb3,
audio, debug) all of them will be called on typec_switch_set and
typec_mux_set. But not all of them will be handling the expected mode.
If one of the mux or switch will come back with EOPTNOSUPP this is no
reason to stop running through the next ones. Therefor we skip this
particular error value and continue calling the next.

Although some Type-C DRD devices that do not support the DP Sink
function (such as Huawei Mate 40Pro), the Source Port initiates
Enter Mode CMD, but the device responds to Enter Mode ACK, the
Source port then initiates DP Status Update CMD, and the device
responds to DP Status Update NAK.
As PD2.0 spec ("6.4.4.3.4 Enter Mode Command"),A DR_Swap Message
Shall Not be sent during Modal Operation between the Port Partners.
At this time, the source port initiates DR_Swap message through the
"echo device > /sys/class/typec/port0/data_role" command to switch
the data role from host to device. The device will initiate a Hard
Reset for recovery, resulting in the failure of data role swap.
Therefore, when DP Status Update NAK is received, Exit Mode CMD is
initiated to exit the currently entered DP altmode.

commit 324d45e53f1a36c88bc649dc39e0c8300a41be0a upstream.
A state check was previously added to tcpm_queue_vdm_unlocked to
prevent a deadlock where the DisplayPort Alt Mode driver would be
executing work and attempting to grab the tcpm_lock while the TCPM
was holding the lock and attempting to unregister the altmode, blocking
on the altmode driver's cancel_work_sync call.
Because the state check isn't protected, there is a small window
where the Alt Mode driver could determine that the TCPM is
in a ready state and attempt to grab the lock while the
TCPM grabs the lock and changes the TCPM state to one that
causes the deadlock. The callstack is provided below:

Change tcpm_queue_vdm_unlocked to queue for tcpm_queue_vdm_work,
which can perform the state check while holding the TCPM lock
while the Alt Mode lock is no longer held. This requires a new
struct to hold the vdm data, altmode_vdm_event.

typec_match() takes a const pointer, and then decides to cast it away
into a non-const one, which is not a good thing to do overall. Fix this
up by properly setting the pointers to be const to preserve that
attribute.

commit f4239ace2dd8606f6824757f192965a95746da05 upstream.
debugfs.c emits the following warnings when compiling with the -Wsign-conversion flag with clang 15:
drivers/usb/typec/ucsi/debugfs.c:58:27: warning: implicit conversion changes signedness: 'int' to 'u32' (aka 'unsigned int') [-Wsign-conversion]
ucsi->debugfs->status = ret;

drivers/usb/typec/ucsi/debugfs.c:71:25: warning: implicit conversion changes signedness: 'u32' (aka 'unsigned int') to 'int' [-Wsign-conversion]
return ucsi->debugfs->status;
~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^~~~~~
During ucsi_cmd() we see:
if (ret < 0) {
ucsi->debugfs->status = ret;
return ret;
}
But "status" is u32 meaning unsigned wrap-around occurs when assigning a value which is < 0 to it, this obscures the real status.
To fix this make the "status" of type int since ret is also of type int.
commit 364618c89d4c57c85e5fc51a2446cd939bf57802 upstream.
This patch introduces the ucsi_con_mutex_lock / ucsi_con_mutex_unlock
functions to the UCSI driver. ucsi_con_mutex_lock ensures the connector
mutex is only locked if a connection is established and the partner pointer
is valid. This resolves a deadlock scenario where
ucsi_displayport_remove_partner holds con->mutex waiting for
dp_altmode_work to complete while dp_altmode_work attempts to acquire it.
commit e918d3959b5ae0e793b8f815ce62240e10ba03a4 upstream.
This patch fixes Type-C Compliance Test TD 4.7.6 - Try.SNK DRP Connect
SNKAS.
The compliance tester moves into SNK_UNATTACHED during toggling and
expects the PUT to apply Rp after tPDDebounce of detection. If the port
is in SNK_TRY_WAIT_DEBOUNCE, it will move into SRC_TRYWAIT immediately
and apply Rp. This violates TD 4.7.5.V.3, where the tester confirms that
the PUT attaches Rp after the transitions to Unattached.SNK for
tPDDebounce.
Change the tcpm_set_state delay between SNK_TRY_WAIT_DEBOUNCE and
SRC_TRYWAIT to tPDDebounce.
commit 976e7e9bdc7719a023a4ecccd2e3daec9ab20a40 upstream.
For the ACPI backend of UCSI the UCSI "registers" are just a memory copy
of the register values in an opregion. The ACPI implementation in the
BIOS ensures that the opregion contents are synced to the embedded
controller and it ensures that the registers (in particular CCI) are
synced back to the opregion on notifications. While there is an ACPI call
that syncs the actual registers to the opregion there is rarely a need to
do this and on some ACPI implementations it actually breaks in various
interesting ways.
The only reason to force a sync from the embedded controller is to poll
CCI while notifications are disabled. Only the ucsi core knows if this
is the case and guessing based on the current command is suboptimal, i.e.
leading to the following spurious assertion splat:
WARNING: CPU: 3 PID: 76 at drivers/usb/typec/ucsi/ucsi.c:1388 ucsi_reset_ppm+0x1b4/0x1c0 [typec_ucsi]
Thus introduce a ->poll_cci() method that works like ->read_cci() with an
additional forced sync and document that this should be used when polling
with notifications disabled. For all other backends that presumably don't
have this issue use the same implementation for both methods.
commit 976e7e9bdc7719a023a4ecccd2e3daec9ab20a40 upstream.
It breaks the Android kernel abi and can be brought back in the future
in an abi-safe way if it is really needed.
[ Upstream commit c16006852732dc4fe37c14b81f9b4458df05b832 ]
The error `failed to get FW build information` is added for what looks
to be for misdetection of the device property firmware-name.
If the property is missing (such as on non-nvidia HW) this error shows up.
Move the error into the scope of the property parser for "firmware-name"
to avoid showing errors on systems without the firmware-name property.
commit 976e7e9bdc7719a023a4ecccd2e3daec9ab20a40 upstream.
For the ACPI backend of UCSI the UCSI "registers" are just a memory copy
of the register values in an opregion. The ACPI implementation in the
BIOS ensures that the opregion contents are synced to the embedded
controller and it ensures that the registers (in particular CCI) are
synced back to the opregion on notifications. While there is an ACPI call
that syncs the actual registers to the opregion there is rarely a need to
do this and on some ACPI implementations it actually breaks in various
interesting ways.
The only reason to force a sync from the embedded controller is to poll
CCI while notifications are disabled. Only the ucsi core knows if this
is the case and guessing based on the current command is suboptimal, i.e.
leading to the following spurious assertion splat:
WARNING: CPU: 3 PID: 76 at drivers/usb/typec/ucsi/ucsi.c:1388 ucsi_reset_ppm+0x1b4/0x1c0 [typec_ucsi]
Thus introduce a ->poll_cci() method that works like ->read_cci() with an
additional forced sync and document that this should be used when polling
with notifications disabled. For all other backends that presumably don't
have this issue use the same implementation for both methods.
commit d6b82dafd17db0658f089b9cdec573982ca82bc5 upstream.
During probe, the TCPC alert interrupts are getting masked to
avoid unwanted interrupts during chip setup: this is ok to do
but there is no unmasking happening at any later time, which
means that the chip will not raise any interrupt, essentially
making it not functional as, while internally it does perform
all of the intended functions, it won't signal anything to the
outside.
Unmask the alert interrupts to fix functionality.
commit bf4f9ae1cb08ccaafbe6874be6c46f59b83ae778 upstream.
It is observed that on some systems an initial PPM reset during the boot
phase can trigger a timeout:
[ 6.482546] ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: failed to reset PPM!
[ 6.482551] ucsi_acpi USBC000:00: error -ETIMEDOUT: PPM init failed
Still, increasing the timeout value, albeit being the most straightforward
solution, eliminates the problem: the initial PPM reset may take up to
~8000-10000ms on some Lenovo laptops. When it is reset after the above
period of time (or even if ucsi_reset_ppm() is not called overall), UCSI
works as expected.
Moreover, if the ucsi_acpi module is loaded/unloaded manually after the
system has booted, reading the CCI values and resetting the PPM works
perfectly, without any timeout. Thus it's only a boot-time issue.
The reason for this behavior is not clear but it may be the consequence
of some tricks that the firmware performs or be an actual firmware bug.
As a workaround, increase the timeout to avoid failing the UCSI
initialization prematurely.
commit 4d27afbf256028a1f54363367f30efc8854433c3 upstream.
The Source can drop its output voltage to the minimum of the requested
PPS APDO voltage range when it is in Current Limit Mode. If this voltage
falls within the range of vPpsShutdown, the Source initiates a Hard
Reset and discharges Vbus. However, currently the Sink may disconnect
before the voltage reaches vPpsShutdown, leading to unexpected behavior.
Prevent premature disconnection by setting the Sink's disconnect
threshold to the minimum vPpsShutdown value. Additionally, consider the
voltage drop due to IR drop when calculating the appropriate threshold.
This ensures a robust and reliable interaction between the Source and
Sink during SPR PPS Current Limit Mode operation.
commit 2eb3da037c2c20fa30bc502bc092479b2a1aaae2 upstream.
As PD2.0 spec ("8.3.3.2.3 PE_SRC_Send_Capabilities state"), after the
Source receives the GoodCRC Message from the Sink in response to the
Source_Capabilities message, it should start the SenderResponseTimer,
after the timer times out, the state machine transitions to the
HARD_RESET state.
This commit adds a new AMS for responding to a "Get_Revision" request.
Revision message consists of the following fields:
+----------------------------------------------------+
| Header | RMDO |
| No. of data objects = 1 | |
+----------------------------------------------------+
While RMDO consists of:
* B31..28 Revision Major
* B27..24 Revision Minor
* B23..20 Version Major
* B19..16 Version Minor
* B15..0 Reserved, shall be set to zero.
As per the PD spec ("8.3.3.16.2.1 PR_Give_Revision State"), a request is
only expected when an explicit contract is established and the port is
in ready state. This AMS is only supported for PD >= 3.0.
Add support for parsing "pd-revision" DT property in TCPM and store PD
revision and version supported by the Type-C connnector.
It should be noted that the PD revision is the maximum possible revision
supported by the port. This is different from the 2 bit revision set in
PD msg headers. The purpose of the 2 bit revision value is to negotiate
between Rev 2.X & 3.X spec rev as part of contract negotiation, while
this is used for Get_Revision AMS after a contract is in place.
Add support for parsing DT time property "sink-bc12-completion-time-ms".
This timer is used to relax the PD state machine during Sink attach to
allow completion of Battery Charging (BC1.2) charger type detection in
TCPC before PD negotiations. BC1.2 detection is a hardware mechanism to
detect charger port type that is run by some controllers (such as
"maxim,max33359") in parallel to Type-C connection state machines.
This is to ensure that BC1.2 completes before PD is enabled as running
BC1.2 in parallel with PD negotiation results in delays violating timer
constraints in PD spec.
This is an optional timer and will not add any delay unless explicitly
set.
This may happen on shared irq case. Such as two Type-C ports share one
irq. After the first port finished tcpci_register_port(), it may trigger
interrupt. However, if the interrupt comes by chance the 2nd port finishes
devm_request_threaded_irq(), the 2nd port interrupt handler will run at
first. Then the above issue happens due to tcpci is still a NULL pointer
in tcpci_irq() when dereference to regmap.
devm_request_threaded_irq()
<-- port1 irq comes
disable_irq(client->irq);
tcpci_register_port()
This will restore the logic to the state before commit (77e85107a7 "usb:
typec: tcpci: support edge irq").
However, moving tcpci_register_port() earlier creates a problem when use
edge irq because tcpci_init() will be called before
devm_request_threaded_irq(). The tcpci_init() writes the ALERT_MASK to
the hardware to tell it to start generating interrupts but we're not ready
to deal with them yet, then the ALERT events may be missed and ALERT line
will not recover to high level forever. To avoid the issue, this will also
set ALERT_MASK register after devm_request_threaded_irq() return.
When the PPM receives command from the OPM (p.1) it sets the busy bit
in the CCI (p.2), sends notification to the OPM (p.3) and forwards the
command to be executed by the LPM (p.4). When the PPM receives command
completion from the LPM (p.5) it sets command completion bit in the CCI
(p.6) and sends notification to the OPM (p.7). If command execution by
the LPM is fast enough then when the OPM starts handling the notification
from p.3 in p.8 and reads the CCI value it will see command completion bit
set and will call complete(). Then complete() might be called again when
the OPM handles notification from p.7.
This fix replaces test_bit() with test_and_clear_bit()
in ucsi_notify_common() in order to call complete() only
once per request.
This fix also reinitializes completion variable in
ucsi_sync_control_common() before a command is sent.
commit ef42b906df5c57d0719b69419df9dfd25f25c161 upstream.
The refcounts of the OF nodes obtained by of_get_child_by_name() calls
in anx7411_typec_switch_probe() are not decremented. Replace them with
device_get_named_child_node() calls and store the return values to the
newly created fwnode_handle fields in anx7411_data, and call
fwnode_handle_put() on them in the error path and in the unregister
functions.
Fixes: e45d7337dc ("usb: typec: anx7411: Use of_get_child_by_name() instead of of_find_node_by_name()")
